Anne Stuart Henry, M.Ed. and Melanie Walck, M.S.

About the Counselors

Anne Henry received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and Education (dual concentration) from the College of William and Mary. She received her Master of Education degree in Counseling and Development from George Mason University. Her counseling center is known as Ms. Henry's Tropical Retreat.

Melanie Walck received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Marywood University. She received her Master of Science degree in Counselor Education from Marywood University. She will be at Alvey three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and works at Signal Hill Elementary for the rest of the week. Her office is located in Room 172, otherwise known as Ms. Walck's Arctic Chill-out.

Mission of the Department

The J.W. Alvey Elementary School Counseling Program strives to engage the diverse J.W. Alvey community (students, parents, teachers) in proactive solutions that enable all to achieve personal/social, career, and academic goals necessary to become productive citizens.

Philosophy Statement

The professional school counselors serving J.W. Alvey Elementary School believe:

·        All students can achieve and deserve equitable access to resources and a rigorous curriculum.

·        The dignity and culture of all students is respected and valued.

·        The school counselors will use data to continuously improve the school counseling program.

·        The school counselors will proactively act as advocates for all students.

·        The school counselors will collaborate with families, staff, and community resources to assist with student development.

·        The school counselors will abide by ASCA’s professional school counseling standards and ethics.
