I'm so glad you are interested in preparing to take AP Music Theory. Here is what you need to know before September in order to do well in this class:
(in order of what you should start learning first)
* Be able to read notes in Treble Clef , Bass Clef, and C clef (alto clef/tenor clef).
* Review and know all 12 major scales
* Begin exploring natural minor scales (or how to derive them from major scales)
* Key signatures-major and minor
* Spellings for all MAJOR triads (3 note chords)
* Basic knowledge of intervals (visual: recognize intervals within an octave; aural: what they sound like)
*Be able to identify notes on a piano keyboard
* Be able to write music notation - basic
WOW--that's a lot!
