*Officer job descriptions/duties include (but are not limited to):
President –
ü Work with officers to create a point system for full membership in ASTA
ü Plan for and help implement The Big Projects (instrument petting zoo, nursing home visits, etc)
ü Delegating tasks. (Ms. Almore asks for ASTA’s help, you either take care of it or ask another officer)
ü Making sure tasks get accomplished
ü Ambassador for the Orchestra
ü Rallying the troops.
ü Working with the concertmaster and the conductor to plan for concerts and special events.
ü Ensuring that concerts go off without a hitch.
ü Choosing events to enhance the reputation of the Orchestra
ü Role model to others in orchestra
Vice president -
ü Marketing
o Maintain bulletin board in performing arts hall
o make sure that Orchestra events and concerts are covered by the school website, the school newspaper, the local newspapers, etc.
o make “flats” for concerts (like drama)
o posters for concerts- create and distribute in community (grocery stores, nursing homes)
o invitations to concerts sent 5th graders at our local feeders schools
ü Network with other school clubs.
Treasurer –
ü Fundraising—
o choosing activities
o organizing fundraising
o being present at fundraising events (cookie sales, car wash, etc)
Secretary –
ü Keep notes at meetings
ü Post notes on ASTA website
ü Post important information on ASTA website
ü Oversee the drafting of ASTA constitution and by-laws
Librarian –
ü Organizing, sorting, maintaining library.
ü Stamping new music as it comes in
ü Get all music stamped and properly labelled
ü Recruiting people to help with the above tasks.
ü Making recommendations for new music.
ü Returning borrowed music to other schools/people.
Historian/Archivist -
ü Save all concert and activities programs
ü Photograph all events (or make sure that someone photographs them—a parent, etc.)
Create a scrapbook—look at the Band scrapbook for ideas.

ü The number one quality for an ASTA officer is self-motivation and a love of music.
ü You have to be willing to stay after school for meetings.
ü Do not run if you do not plan to stay after school for meetings.
ü You do not need to be “the best” player—just hard-working. |
