The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras are excited to announce open auditions for its 2007 - 2008 Concert Season.   Auditions will be held at the following locations:

Tuesday, May 2 2nd, 2007     Atlee High School  (Hanover)      4:00PM - 7:00PM
Wednesday, May 2 3rd, 2007     The Steward School  (Henrico)      4:00PM - 7:00PM
Thursday, May 2 4th, 2007     Monacan High School  (Chesterfield)      3:00PM - 6:00PM
Friday, May 2 5th, 2007     James River High School (Chesterfield )     3:00  PM6 :00PM
Saturday, May 26 th, 2007     Harvest Renewal Church (D owntown)      9:00  AM -  12:00PM

2007 - 2008 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
for Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, Youth Concert Orchestra & Camerata Strings 
 
SCALES : Knowledge of all major scales up to four sharps and four flats, performed at least two octaves. Wind & Brass players be prepared to play a chromatic scale at least one octave. Percussion candidates will play scales on Marimba, and must demonstrate ability to play a roll (pp - ff), on snare drum and/or timpani.
SOLO: Prepare a 2 - 3 minute unaccompanied solo or etude that best demonstrates your playing ability. Percussion candidates must prepare one etude for two of the following instruments: snare drum, timpani (using 3 - 4 drums), and/or marimba.
SIGHT-READING : Musical passages determined by the judges to reflect the skill level appropriate to the Youth Orchestras.
 
The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras are very proud to support music education at all levels, and our policy has always been that Youth Orchestra musicians must participate in their school's band and/or orchestra program, if class instruction is offered for their instrument.  
 
The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras believes that money should never hinder a student from participating in our ensembles; therefore, we are proud to offer tuition scholarships in the form of financial aid. Additional information will be available in the registration packet.
