Discipline
Policy for Room 4
My
philosophy of discipline is that children need to first feel safe and
comfortable in their learning environment.
They need to understand that there are rules and routines to follow. When these rules and routines are interrupted
by their actions, the learning environment is placed on hold for a short time
causing distraction to the learners and the instructor. Children need to comprehend the consequences
for their disruptive behavior choices. Also, a classroom with precise and
understandable rules and routines adds to the harmony of an active learning
environment. In the end, we have happy
students and a happy teacher interacting with each other meeting our
goal-having fun learning.
My
rules are very simple as I have mentioned above. They are as follows:
1. Raise your hand to speak.
2. Stay seated or in assigned area. (Bathroom privileges only!)
3. Keep your eyes and ears on the speaker.
4. Keep hands, feet and objects away from
others.
5. Do your best work.
The
discipline plan that I use is very simple.
On each student’s desk are 4 colored bears-green, yellow, blue and
red. The bears represent the following:
Green
bear-Alright, out of sight, excellent behavior
Yellow
bear-Warning for breaking a rule-classroom or school rule
Blue
bear-Child will receive a time out, be excused from recess and will have a
phone call home or the child may have to write a letter of apology in lieu of a
phone call home because you will be asked to sign and return the letter.
Red
bear-The child will be removed from the room and will be sent to the office to
see the principal.
Rewards:
1. Happy students and a happy teacher
2. Praise
3. Treasure box
4. Homework passes
5. Ticket to the “treasured moments” box
6. Free time on the computer
7. Special helper
8. Note home to parents
9. Phone call home to parents
You
ask, “How will I know if my child had a good day? Well, each child will bring home a sticker book
in their homework folder every night. I
will place a sticker on the calendar if your child kept his or her green
bear. The sticker book will reveal if
your child lost a bear. Sticker books are to be returned in the
homework folder.
We
also have team tallies. Students are
placed in groups of 4 or 5 students. When
students are ready, quiet and on task, then their team will earn a tally
mark. At the end of the week, the team
with the most tallies will be rewarded.
Lastly,
we a have a “treasured moments” box in our room. It is actually a fake treasure chest. When student is recognized for being kind, I
will give the student a slip of paper to write his or her name on and place it
into the box. At the end of the week, I
will pick a name from the box and the student will receive a very special
prize. The remainder of the names will
be discarded from the box. Each week,
one kind person will be awarded a very special prize. A child has an opportunity to have his or her
name placed in the box several times for their acts of kindness.

you have any questions, about the class discipline policy, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
