SUPPLY LIST UPDATE:

THE INVENTORY WILL BE COMING HOME THIS WEEK.

Every January, I have my students take inventory of their school supplies.  I know some of the students are in need of supplies.  They will be bringing home their own inventories this week.  Please check it and get your child the supplies that he or she needs.  It is good to start the New Year with fresh supplies.

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:

  • READING-We will begin the DEAR reading in our classroom.  I will be administering the DRA assessment this week.  A new sight word list is going home this week.  Please continue to work with your child on practicing these words.
  •  MATH-Chapter 4 continues with telling time on the quarter hour, math facts in addition and subtraction, and timelines. I will give the Unit 4 test on Friday.  Please continue to allow your child to play the EM Games.
  • WRITING-Writer’s Workshop resumes.  The focus this week will be writing correct sentences and editing sentences.
  • SOCIAL STUDIES-We will continue the map unit which focuses on Virginia and the United States.
  • SCIENCE-The unit on animals will continue.  Students will be taking a short test on the animal group on Wednesday.  Please look for the study guide on the animal groups.    Next Week:  Animal research projects and presentations are explained and assign to the students.  I would like to place our projects on display in the JBD Science Fair coming in February.

IMPORTANT PAPERS):

I will not be sending home important papers this week.  The students do not have many papers.  They will go home next week.

READING LOGS:

January’s reading log will go home this week.  Please remember to read for 15 minutes every night.  The students are rewarded with eating lunch with me in the classroom when they turn in their reading logs.  Please help your child with this task.
