I am so excited about being at JBD for the third year. I enjoy first grade
and look forward to a great year. I have been teaching first grade for 3
years and taught kindergarten for several years in Norfolk. I have lived in
Virginia Beach since I was 5. I consider myself a "true" local. I attended
Virginia Beach Public Schools and feel very honored to work for VBCPS. I
graduated from ODU with both my BS and MS in education. My specialty is
early childhood education and child development from newborn to age 9. I am
married-20 years this year! I have two sons. Mason has now moved far from
home attending the University of Central Florida. He is a sophomore
majoring in environmental studies. Wyatt is our blond bombshell and is a
spitfire of a fourth grader at Linkhorn Park Elementary School. He keeps us
busy with all of his activities. Whenever I have spare time, I enjoy the
beach, water and sand. I also love gardening and I am in the process of re-
landscaping my back yard. The front yard is finished as of early July.
Lastly, I love to cook and bake-no pies though. Recently, I have become
sort of a health nut and have changed the way I eat and exercise. It drives
my family crazy!!
My mission for the class is to have an active learning environment with age
and learner appropriate tasks. I beleive that children should be up and
moving around and should never be sitting for more than 15 minutes. I love
the differentiated environment and teach based on the students' learning
styles and interests.
