Grading Standards

Music is a performance based art.  We do much singing, movement, playing the instruments, listening, and creativity in the classroom.  Not only are the Virginia Beach Music Objectives included, but also the State Music SOLs and the National Standards for Arts Education in Music.  I use a rubric for grading every time your child comes to music. 

The rubric is:

4 - O - MASTERY - accurate throughout entire performance.

3 - S - COMPETENT - accurate almost all of the performance.

2 - N - DEVELOPING - accurate for part of the performance.

1 - U - EMERGING - very little accuracy. 

When a child sings and performs a movement or plays an instrument, they are working both sides of their brain.  What a wonderful way to do brain excercises!
