The Role of the Reading Specialist

There are two main roles of the reading specialist as outlined by
Virginia Beach Schools.

First, reading specialists provide instruction for students throughout
the school to improve reading achievement. This instruction may involve a
whole class or a small group of students. Lessons are designed to build
student's usage of reading strategies while promoting fluency and
comprehension.

Second, the reading specialists serve as a resource for students,
parents, teachers, and administration. This website has been created to
help link parents to helpful reading links. In addition, the reading
specialists work closely with the teachers to help identify students who
need further support and or testing. The goal is to help all students
become successful readers.
