About the teacher

I am a native of Connecticut but have lived in Virginia Beach for 8 years
with my husband Alan and three children, Danielle (17), Jack (14),and Sam(9).
We have 1 cat named Willow (10) and 2 black labs named Tracey and Molly.
My favorite things to do in my spare time are gardening, reading, watching a
good movie, and enjoying the outdoors. My favorite foods are pizza, Starbucks
coffee, and homemade cookies/desserts.
I have also lived in South Carolina, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and
California. I like to spend my summer vacations visiting family in CT and
RI. I have previously taught special education (grades K-5) and preschool
children ages 2-5. I received a B.S. degree in Special Education from the
College of Charleston, SC and a Master's degree in Early Childhood Special
Education from Old Dominion University.
I am pleased to be working along side my assistant Katie Goodmurphy.
We will try to make our classroom a place where the children will feel
safe, happy, and ready to learn and try new things.

ABOUT KATIE....This is my second year at Kempsville Elementary and am looking
forward to working with Kellie and your children. I have been a Virginia
Beach resident for three years along with my husband, Craig and our 3
children ages 10, 7, & 4. Current interests include running, biking,
reading, crafts, entertaining, and philanthropy. You'll find me on the
weekends with family and friends at home, the beach or local parks.

Mission For The Class

Our goal for this year is to help the children learn new skills and
build on existing skills through fun and interesting activities throughout
the day, so the children can generalize these skills into other settings.
Our class will use many activities such as music, pretend play,
exploring books, art, sensory play (sand, water, play dough, etc.), outdoor
play, and language arts to extend their communication, motor, and cognitive
skills.

The best thing we can do for our children is to READ to them every day!

You can reach me at school by sending me an email or by leaving a message on
my voicemail and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
