How can my child join the Chorus?

Your child can audition during his/her 5th grade music time and bring in a 
signed permission slip.  Chorus students must maintain at least a "C" 
average and display exemplary behavior.

Will my child need to wear anything special for performances?

Depending on the program, certain costumes may be required. You will receive 
plenty of advance notice to prepare your child for a performance.  
For formal performances, Fifth Grade Chorus members will need: white blouse, 
black skirt, black dress 
shoes (Girls) and white dress shirt, black pants, black socks, and black 
dress shoes (Boys)

How can I become a CHORUS PARENT?

How is my child graded in Music class?

Children receive O, S+, S, S-, N, or U in Music Class.  The grades are based 
on behavior and content.  Behavior grades are done weekly by your child's 
participation and behavior in each music class.  Content grades are based on 
Music SOLs that children need to master each year.

What do the grades mean?

"O"= Outstanding   "S+"=Above Satisfactory  "S"= Satisfactory  
"S-"= Lower than Satifactory   "N"= Needs Improvement  "U"= Unsatisfactory

When will my child begin learning to play the recorder?

Recorder instruction begins in 4th grade.  Both 4th and 5th grade students 
will play recorders during music class. Recorders will be kept in the music 
classroom for your child to use.  S/he may take it home to practice, but 
must remember to bring it back for music class.  A second recorder at home 
may be a good idea.

Where do I purchase recorders?

Recorders will be for sale during the month of September through the music 
teacher, Mrs. Quick.  The cost is $5.00, made payable to KES.  
Otherwise, stores such as "Music and Arts" and even "Walmart" carry 
recorders.

What is All-City Chorus? How can my child join?,

All-City Chorus is a select group of singers from all elementary schools.  
Each school may send 6 singers. 5th Grade Chorus members may be able to 
audition in the spring.  ,
