About The Teacher

I am looking forward to a great musical year at KES! This year our theme
is "Music is OUT OF THIS WORLD!"
I graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in Elementary
Education and Music (vocal performance). I also studied Spanish and spent a
summer in Costa Rica as well as a summer in Spain. I received a "Fulbright
Teacher Exchange" scholarship to spend a summer in Japan as well. I have a
Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, with ESL certification, from Old
Dominion University.
I am married to Mr. Jim Quick, who is a US History
teacher at Landstown High School. He is also a musician who plays bass
guitar in a local band. We have two sons: Noah James Quick who is five and
Grant William Quick who is three years old. Our son Noah will be starting
kindergarten here at KES this year!

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, baking, watching movies,
going to the Outer Banks, and spending time with my family.
I love listening to all kinds of music. Right now my favorite CDs are by:
Rascal Flatts, Colbie Caillat, Casting Crowns, and Carbon Leaf.
My favorite classical composer is Beethoven. "Moonlight Sonata" is
my all-time favorite piano piece.
My favorite author is Jane Austen and "Sense and Sensibility" is my all-time
favorite novel.
My favorite movies are "Casablanca", "Gone with the Wind"
and "The Sound of Music".

Mission For The Class

My mission is to help each child reach his/her academic and artistic
potential, to strengthen character, and improve musicianship. I believe
every
child has the ability to understand music. I know that music is an effective
learning tool for mastery of classroom material as well. I want the music
classroom to be a place where learning is fun and a place where our
Kempsville "stars" can truly shine!
