AP US FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
When is the AP U.S. History national exam? The national exam will be held in early May 2009, location TBD. Will I have to study a lot in this class? YES. There will be a lot of critical reading of the textbook and other historical sources, and there will be a lot of writing about U.S. History. The national exam contains 80 multiple-choice questions and 3 essays, so this course will prepare you for that challenge. How is this class different than regular U.S. History? This class will go in greater depth, require more reading and writing from the student, require the student to examine history more critically, and can lead to college credit (dependent upon student performance on the national exam and satisfactory performance in the class). When is the Virginia - US History SOL exam? Why do I have to take it? It is scheduled for May 2009. Watch this space for updates. Each student MUST PASS the SOL Test in order to get credit for this course. U.S. History is a required course for graduation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. How do I earn college credit for this course? You must pass the course and receive at least a "3" on the AP US History exam administered by the College Board on May 9, 2008. Each state and each college/university varies in how much credit they award for this course, so check with the college/university.
