| Grade 6 American History Expectations
Welcome to your American History Class!
I am very excited about our year together at Lynnhaven Middle School, and
know it will be full of learning. I do have expectations in order for you to
do well. Please read over the following with your parent(s). You should
keep a copy of these classroom expectations in the front of your History
notebook throughout the year as a reference.
Grades will be comprised of the following:
* Tests
* Quizzes
* Notebook/TOC
* Participation/Homework
Tests and Quizzes
Students must obey the following rules during tests/quizzes:
* No talking
* Sign the LMS pledge
* Keep paper covered at all times
Talking is not allowed during testing. Five points will be deducted from a
student’s test for a first offense. If the student continues talking, they
will receive a zero. If you need to ask a question, you must raise your hand.
Notebooks:
One of our goals this year is to keep you organized. Your notebook will be
divided into sections for each subject. In your History section you
will be required to keep a Table of Contents (TOC) for each unit of study.
The following are the requirements for your TOC:
* Notebooks are collected and graded at the end of select units.
* Notebooks must be complete and in order according to the TABLE OF CONTENTS.
* First and last names are required on each notebook.
* Each page behind the TABLE OF CONTENTS must be numbered.
* All work missed due to absence must be made up.
* If any part of an assignment is not completed, 10 points will be taken off.
* 10 points will be deducted from notebooks for each requirement that is
missing.
***This should be an easy “100” grade!
Classwork, Homework and Graded Assignments:
* Students are required to write their assignments daily in their school
planners.
* If absent, call infoline, 496-6790 EXT. 71661· If left in locker, it may
be brought in that day without penalty.
* Graded assignments will be lowered one letter grade for each day it is
turned in late (10 points off each day)
Late Work:
All work is expected to be complete and turned in on time. If any work is
turned in late, a 10 point penalty per day is given. If extra time is
needed, then an agreement between you, me, and your parents need to be
discussed before the due date.
If absent, work must be completed according to number of days absent (1 day
absent= 1 day late, etc.)
Progress Reports:
A student Progress Report will be sent home approximately every two weeks.
Parents are responsible for going over the report with their child, signing
it and returning it to the teacher. Parents are invited to make comments,
ask questions or request conferences.
The above expectations are required to succeed in our class. Failure to
follow these expectations will result in a lower grade.
I am looking forward to an exciting year. Communication is key! Please
call or e- mail me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Kendra Merlet
