After-School Ballet ClassSubject: My students need your help!
Hi Friends, We're halfway through the school year! I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed. So I've created a classroom project request at DonorsChoose.org, an award-winning charity. I'm asking for donations of any size to help my kids. Now through February 18, any donation you make to my project will be doubled! If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. Your donation will brighten my students' school year, and you'll get photos and thank yous from our class. Visit my page at http://www.donorschoose.org/juliejonesmusic. To have your donation matched dollar for dollar, enter the match code HEART on the payment screen. This awesome match offer lasts through February 18. My students and I greatly appreciate your support. Julie After-School Ballet Class This is a totally grant-funded program for children in grades 3-5 at Matthew Whaley. The program is in partnership with SHIP, so be on the lookout for SHIP club applications in early September and turn in your application as soon as possible---don't miss the deadline!!! Thirty-one children were selected by lottery for the program, which runs from October through the end of April. The ballet class meets from 4-5:00 p.m. on Monday afternoons. There are two classes with 15-16 children in each class. Teachers are professional dance instructors. A healthy snack and bus transportation home after each class is provided by SHIP. We will be taking a field trip to see The Nutcracker at William and Mary in December. Tickets are paid for by our grant sponsors. Every child will be given a uniform, consisting of a leotard/tights/ballet slippers, to wear for class each week. Also, in January, there will be an optional ten week technique class that will meet on Wednesdays from 4-5:00 p.m. On May 1, the children will participate in a spring recital. Each child will perform both a ballet and a jazz dance. Costumes are provided for the recital. One child who shows exceptional potential as a dancer will be awarded a ballet scholarship valued at $1000 for a year's worth of twice weekly ballet classes at Virginia Regional Ballet. Mrs. Millie Pegram, one of our MW first grade teachers, and I will be sponsoring the after-school ballet program again this year. We can hardly wait to get started!!! Our grant sponsors this year are: Junior Woman's Club of Williamsburg; Target; WalMart; Inclusion; Virginia Commission for the Arts; Williamsburg Community Foundation. If you know someone who is affiliated with one of these organizations, please express your gratitude for their support----the program would not exist without them!
