Welcome to Room 401!
While I will do my best to post HW nightly, occasionally I have meetings
after school or activities that I am running three children to ( in
different places!) Please know this website is teacher funded, and it is to
keep you as updated as possible- it does not take the place of copying
homework from the board. Agendas are stamped until around 9:15- ample time
for students to get their HW copied.
This week, we are finishing our Jamestown narrative writings. Narratives
tell a story with a beginning, middle, and end.We continue to have some
students struggling with their multiplication facts, please review the facts
as well as the process- freerice. com is a great site for that!Division is
coming up very SOON, and becomes difficult if they don't have multiplication
locked in. We are reviewing parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, and
adjectives, as well as finishing our study of the Jamestown colony. In
Science, we have learned about the Apollo missions, as well as the moon
phases. We've discussed a few astronomers, and the properties of the moon,
sun, and earth. Ask your child what APE and CGS stands for! We have a quiz on
this material Thursday!
Anytime you see "VS" anything in your child's notes, that stands for
Virginia Studies. There are 10 strands to these SOL's, we are currently on
VS3, which also has subcategories of a,b,c, etc. Your child's notebook is
filled with drawings and responses to what we discuss in class- making it
truly an interactice notebook. Textbooks are seldom used , as they do not
always align with our SOL's. They are good resources, and do get some face
time- just not our exclusive teaching tool!
We are taking part 2 of the nine weeks math test tomorrow, and will take
Science and Social Studies benchmarks on Thursday and Friday.
*** If your child has a temperature at all, they must be fever free for 24
hours before returning to school. Many students are out sick daily, this is
just an awful fall for viral issues and the flu, so when in doubt, please
keep your child home. ***
