Welcome to Room 401! While I will do my best to post HW nightly, occasionally I have meetings after school or activities that I am running three children to ( in different places!) Please know this website is teacher funded, and it is to keep you as updated as possible- it does not take the place of copying homework from the board. Agendas are stamped until around 9:15- ample time for students to get their HW copied. This week, we are working on descriptive writings. Writing with strong adjectives is essential to good storytelling, please help your child identify adjectives that tell what kind and how many. We're also discussing articles ("an", "a" , and "the")and when they are used.Division of a three digit by a one digit number is what we are currently working on in Math. Students have been shown both partial quotient and traditional long division, as well as multiplying to check your answer. We have pre- assessed electricity terms, and also reviewed what a circuit is, as well as open and closed circuits. Book Fair begins tomorrow night at PTA; please support the Book Fair. Your student has a flyer that has a sample of books from the Fair. Anytime you see "VS" anything in your child's notes, that stands for Virginia Studies. There are 10 strands to these SOL's, we are currently on VS3, which also has subcategories of a,b,c, etc. Your child's notebook is filled with drawings and responses to what we discuss in class- making it truly an interactice notebook. Textbooks are seldom used , as they do not always align with our SOL's. They are good resources, and do get some face time- just not our exclusive teaching tool!Students have a cumulative test on VS2 and VS3 on Friday. *** If your child has a temperature at all, they must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Many students are out sick daily, this is just an awful fall for viral issues and the flu, so when in doubt, please keep your child home. *** Link to the lunar calendar showing the moon phases http://stardate.org/nightsky/moon/ A book site for recommedations for kid's books! http://www.scholastic.com/kids/stacks/books/ Look up AR books here!
