Music Appreciation Class October 4- 8, 2010 Topic: Jazz Music and Artists Rythm & Blues Artists First Block Class: The students will research famous musicians in the field of jazz music from the past and today. Before the students can study jazz music, they must know the African american history of jazz music and how it was brought to the United States in the south. The student will know the instruments used to create the syncopated rythm in the music. Some of the artists they will research are Dr. Herbie Hancock, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jeff Lorber. Contempory jazz artists the class will study next week October 11-15, 2010, will be George Duke, Joey Defrancheco, and Chick Corea. October 11-15,2010 Topic: Jazz and Carribean Music First Block: The class will look at Fusion Jazz music and how jazz influence the Carribean Islands and other artists. Some of the artists are Count Basie, Clark Terry, Lousie Armstrong, Duke Ellington,Tito American Jazz artist of music and dance. Some artist are Chick Corea, Tito Puente, and Celia Cruz. The class will study Latin dances as well as swing which made the time era of 1940s-1950s popular. October 11, 2010: The students research Celia Cruz and Tito Puente answering teacher-made questions. October 4-8, 2010 General Science Class Topic:Chapter 8 Genetics The code of life Chapter 9 Evolution Second Block: Chapter 8 is the study of passing genetic traits from one generation to the next. The class will study the meaning of heredity and how many chromosomes to reproduce a human being. Chapter 9 is the study of evolution. The class will answer teacher made questions about the theory of evolution and know the theory of evolution between Charles Darwin and Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. October 11-15,2010 Chapter 10 The Human Body Chapter 11 Energy for Life Chapter 10: The class will learn the different systems that helps the human body function daily. Circulatory, Digestive, Nervous, Respiratory, Muscular, and Skeletal. Chapter 11: This chapter talk directly about the digestion system and how the digestion system works to process food the human body eats. Life Science Class October 4-8, 2010 Chapter 8 Types of Plants Chapter 9 Plants at Work Chapter 8 discusses the difference between a vascular and non vascular plant. The class will study the vocabulary words and learn the different seeds to produce neww plants. Chapter 9 study the parts of a plant and the two types of roots that grows from a plant. October 11,2010: The kids worked on chapter 10 Seeds and Reproduction. The class answered questions from the topic for class grade. October 18-22, 2010 Music Appreciation Class The class will be learning about the history of Hip Hop Music. The class will be doing research on the history of hip hop music in the computer lab. The teacher will have questions to respond with the topic. The class will discuss the different styles of hip hop music and the people who made it popular. Test on hip hop music Wednesday October 27, 2010. Music Appreciation Class: Country Music and Bluegrass Music During this week, the class will be talking about the history of country and bluegrass music. The class will read about country music legends Hank Williams, sr.,Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Raplh Stanley and Bill Monroe. Test will be Tuesday November 2, 2010 General Science October 18 - 22, 2010 THe class will be discussing the ciculatory system and the respiratory system. The teacher will give the class resource materials to work in class that relates to the chapter 11. Life Science October 18-22,2010 : The class will know the different between a warmblooded animal and coldblooded vertebrate animals. October 25-29,2010: The class will continue to study Warn and coldblooded vertebrates. November 8-12, 2010 General Science: Chapter 14 The Properties of Matter The students had to learn some elements of the periodic table.The class had to do internet research work in the library on an element of their choice. After each student have selected an element, the student had to write a paragraph and tell how the element benefit society. Chapter 15 Energy and Matter: The students had to study the different forms of energy that man use to make life pleasant. The class had to complete resource work from the chapter and had to discuss in class for grade. ALso, the class had to reseach a nuclear power plant in Virgina and a hydroelectric dam.The research was done in the library. The answer to the both research Mecklenburg county and North Anna. November 15-19 2010, Chapter 16 Force and Motion. The class studies the different kinds of forces that man use to create motion. The class had to discussed the difference between force gravity. Teacher made questions were prepared for the students. November 22-30, 2010, Chapter 17&18. Chapter 17 talks about how machines makes life easier for human life. The chapter talks about the pros and cons of machinery and the use of man made devices to help move heavy boxes. Chapter 18 Heat, Light, and Sound are the elements man uses to survive in everday living. this chapter talk about changing solid to liquid and the use of heat source to keep people warm. Sound is used to help adults in many ways from danger or to alert safty. Life Science November 8-12, 2010 Unit The Human Body Unit 5 is totally about the human body. This unit begin with the system that make the body function properly in everybody's life. The class will talk about chapter 14 on muscular and skeletal system. The muscula system help the body to move and the skeletal system is the framwork of the human body. November 15-19 Chapters 15 and 16. Chapter 15 talks about the circulatory, repiration, and excretion systems of the human body. Chapter 15 the circulatory system deals with the flow of blood in the human body. The students had to study and work on resouce that relate to the chapter. The Respiatory system deals with breathing and the lungs. Thew class had to name all the body parts of each system they discuss in class. The excretion system deals with the waste system of the body.The class had to learn the part of this system and known how each part function inside the body. Oral or written quiz will be given. Music Appreciation class November8-12, 2010 The music class will studying the different dances from countries around the world. Some dances are Waltz, Minuet, Square Dance, Polka, Line Dance,and Hungarian Dance. The students will research information on each dance. They will participate in a class activity of performing various line dances. November 15-19,2010, the music class continue with the dance.The class had to tell the meaning of the dance and why dances were performed. November 22-24,2010, the class begin to study Rock-N-Roll and Heavy Metal music. The students will look at some bands from the British invasion to the best in american music. December 1-3,2010, The music class will investigate the rock bands of this century. January 10-14, 2011, Environmental Science class will have an introduction from the teacher on ecology. The teacher will have a lecture and a verbal feedback on the information taught in class. Chapters 1 and 2 will be the opening lesson. January 10-14, 2011, Life Science class will open with a lecture on the different branches of science and their function. The class will read chapters 1 and 2. January 10-14, 2011, General Mathematics Class will be about whole numbers by addition and number value. The teacher will demonstrate each lesson on chapter 1 and chapter 2.
