I have lived all over the world because my dad was in the Air Force. I was
born in Valdosta, Georgia in 1953 and moved to Virginia when I was four
years old. My dad was then stationed on a territory of Japan, the island of
Okinawa. It was beautiful place with rice paddies. Okinawa is only thirty
miles long and the top speed limit was 35mph. While living there, Alaska and
Hawaii both became states!!
After four years, there we then returned to the States and landed in
Pasadena, California and then drove across the United States. We crossed the
Mohave Desert without air conditioning!! Also, while traveling we drove
through the Yosemite Valley and saw the Giant Red Wood Forest. What an
incredible sight!!
After four years in Hampton, VA, my father was stationed in Wiesbaden,
Germany. This is an ancient city which was occupied by the Romans and we
visited some of the Roman ruins around the city. It is also a resort city
because Weis (Warm) baden (bath) means warm bath and there were warm
theraputic baths throughout the city. THere was a lovely casino where our
prom was held. Many people attended our high school but one of the most
famous was Priscilla Presley. Elvis Presely met Priscilla at our teen club
which was a converted mansion.
While in Germany, we traveled to England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg,
Lichenstein, Austria and the walled city of Berlin. Travel was easy with the
regularity of the trains. Our family hiked up the Alps on beautiful trails
with the Europeans. Hiking was a regular activity there and might explain
why people aren't so large in these countries. THere were many exciting
experiences living in Europe and it is hard for many people to believe all
the experiences we had in Europe and Okinawa.
Our return to the United States placed us in Ft. Walton Beach, FLA which is
called the Miracle Beach. The sand is like sugar and blinding in water. The
water is so clear, you can see the fish swimming around your legs and feet.
It was a very rural setting then and now is a very busy resort area. I can
see why!
