Ethical, Human & Social Issues in Technology |
Task & Process
Each of the subcommittee members (partners) has a job to do to gather information and determine how it affects the decisions you make. The school board has asked that you participate in an instructional audit. Each subcommittee member must take the survey found on the "Opinions & Biases Before" link by the date stipulated below. Print your results & save an electronic copy - either copy and paste into Word or just save the page - they will be needed. You must also determine when and how you will meet/communicate to work on your task and who will do what. You can use the ECI530 wiki for collaborative planning.
Next you must educate yourselves about the various topics. There
are required readings listed on the "Required Readings" page
that each & every member needs to know. You have a response
page to complete after reading these. Then there are readings for
separate categories of issues: Social, Ethical, & Human. The
subcommittee should determine if all members will learn about all areas and
then make recommendations jointly,
whether you wish to split the areas and each become an expert on one issue and trust each other to share knowledge and make educated recommendations in that area independently. Everyone should be able to communicate to the Instructor what the group plan is and what the timeline or deadlines are. You may use the wiki for this purpose.
There are guiding questions for each area to help you with your research. There are also links to resources for each area. These areas overlap it is the nature of the issue. A template for your recommendations can be found on the Documents page that should be downloaded and used to complete your recommendations. This table is also found on the wiki and can be completed there. One recommendation table per group or subcommittee is to be turned in to the school board and it should have the name of EACH committee member listed. Each member may want to download this template for themselves to use to take notes while researching the various issues.
Finally, after the recommendations have been made, each member is asked to participate in a follow-up survey found on the “What I learned” page. This is part of the instructional audit conducted by the school board and must be completed. To learn more about the instructional audit, members can visit the “Evaluation” page and see the criteria and quality indicators for each phase of this project. As part of the evaluation, each member will also complete two rubrics - one evaluating the quality of the recommendations made and the other evaluating the collaboration skills of your partners. Be honest in your evaluations - no one will see them except the instructor. There is a link to each rubric on the Evaluation page and a scorable Spreadsheet with the same rubrics downloadable from the Documents page.
