Part I:
What evidence is there to support the theory of plate tectonics? What
causes the Earth’s plates to move? Explain the types of boundaries where
plates meet.
Part II:
What are the major geologic provinces of Virginia? How has plate tectonics
created this landscape we see today?
*Keep in mind how plate movement in the Earth’s past could have created the
ground we now stand on.
Groups of 4 will discover these answers.
Team member 1 –
Primary Researcher: will lead the group through the resources, navigate web
pages and locate books
Team member 2 –
Presenter: will complete the summary and presentation, will report in front
of the whole class their group’s findings
Team member 3 –
Leader: this team member will keep the group on task, making sure to watch
the clock and make sure group work is relevant to the assignment
Team member 4 –
Recorder: this member will record notes/valuable information throughout the
fact finding part of the project
*All students will work together to find out the answers to the questions
posed.
Students should present their findings in a creative and informative
presentation to the class. After presenting, the students will take a short
quiz about the assignment complete with a group rubric evaluation. The
class will then participate in a discussion about their findings.
