Welcome to our 3rd grade website!!
February Happenings:
3rd: Wow!  We are finally back from our Snow Days!! I hope everyone was able to take advantage of the unusual amount of snowfall for our area!
This week we are finishing our study of the geography of Ancient Greece and beginning the Art and Architecture portion.  The enduring question is How does the geographic location affect the structures of a civilization?
We have begun our study of ancient Greece! We have begun learning about the geography of ancient Greece and how it impacted all aspects of their lives. I think that I may hear the faint theme music from Indiana Jones as we begin Greek art and architecture!
The Greco-Roman feast will be held Friday, February 19th. I will be sending home more information either by email or paper concerning the schedule and volunteer/donation opportunities.
February Birthdays:

Katelyn T. - 7

January Happenings:
6th:  Happy Birthday to MacKellar!
We have completed Unit 5 in Math and are moving on to Unit 6.
We have finished our study of Explorers.
They completed a simulation where each group were given a packet of resources and the group had to determine who would be the leader and explorer.  Then the group were tasked to develop their own country (flag, money, religion etc.).  The children quickly learned that the explorer would have to go and trade for needed resources in order to complete the task.
Next the children broke into groups and learned about a explorer so as to become experts.  Then the groups presented their information to the rest of the class.
The children did a nice job of searching for the most important facts, collaborating and organizing their presentations!
The last week of January we are set to begin our immersion into ancient Greek and Roman civilizations!  Let the "games" begin!!

Happy New Year!
Congratulations to Katelyn T. for being chosen our December Student of the Month for Kindness.
This month we are beginning our Social Studies unit on Explorers!
We will have a day were students will be inventing their own country in groups.
We will be researching different explorers as well.
We are continuing Unit 5 in Math and we just had our first Continental Math League Meet on Thursday, January 8th.
Language Arts:  Finishing our study of The Gadget Wars, word study and various writing activities.

I hope everyone remembered to move their clocks back one hour!!
It is hard to believe that it is November already!!
Last week was very busy in our classroom!
We started our Cycles unit in Science and set up our Mealworm experiment in the lab on Friday.   We also had a great time measuring, counting lines and seeds and finding out if our pumpkins would float on Friday!! 2 out of 3 did and I think if I had a bigger sink, the 3rd would have as well!
Conferences begin this week!  I love forward to talking with everyone about your wonderful children.
