| ODC Dance Homework May 8 until the end of the year!
Your 2007-2008 ODC Dance ME Book
As a way of wrapping up your fantastic year of dance, you will be creating
your 2007-2008 ODC Dance ME Book. This book will include your experiences,
feelings, memories and thoughts about your year of dance. Remember the
Winter Celebration? You were part of the Romantic Ballet, “the Legend of
ODC’ia.” Remember your technique classes - Ballet, Fundamentals, Modern,
Tap or Jazz? Remember the dances you created in Creative Dance class?
Now that’s a lot to think about!! Let’s take one step at a time. You may
start with any section. Just make sure to be thorough and careful with your
work. You may need to shift from one section to another. Just try to
complete each one. You also may use your dance notebook for ideas and
information. Now let’s get started.
My Technique Classes
Think about the different technique classes you have taken this year -
Ballet, Fundamentals, Modern, Jazz or Tap. Write some things about these
classes. These questions may help guide you as you think back. You can
also use pictures, poetry or symbols to express your idea.
- What are the important things that you have learned in these
classes?
- What has really stood out to you?
- How has your body changed since you have been taking these classes?
- What new dance vocabulary words have you learned?
- What has a teacher said to you in this class that has really made a
difference?
My Dance Perspectives Classes - the Romantic Ballet Era and Physics and Dance
What do you remember about the Romantic Ballet era? the ballerinas, the
costumes, the ballets, Giselle, the choreographers, the Wilis? Draw several
pictures that represent what you remember from this time in ballet history.
What do you remember about our study of the connection between physics and
dance? push, pull, reaction, action, force, balance, energy, etc. Draw a
picture to represent what you have learned about these concepts in relation
to movement.
My Own Dance Creations
Let’s remember the different movements that you have created over the year.
Think about your creative dance tools: shape, patterns, energy changes,
levels, rhythm changes, personal space, self space, stillness with energy
and pathways. Remember a movement or part of a dance that you created or
help to create this year that you really liked. Pretend you are e-mailing a
message or writing a letter to a friend to describe to him or her about this
cool movement or dance you created. This is a friend who knows nothing
about dance. Try your best to communicate in a clear way in order that your
friend understands your dance.
My Rehearsals and Performances
Create a diary or journal that contains memories from your rehearsal time
and memories from the tour performances and the performance at Plaza MS.
Please include short entries that help to describe some of the memories.
Your first part would be rehearsals, 2nd part about the tour and the 3rd
part about the Plaza MS performance.
Example:
Rehearsal
Entry 1 - I remember that I was tired during this one particular
rehearsal. – nothing was working. The teacher yelled at me a lot.
Entry 2 - I was so successful today because I really knew my dance. I was
on my marks every time. HURRAH!!
Tour
Entry 1 - I was very scared when I did my first performance. I saw kids in
the audience laughing and that hurt my feelings.
Entry 2 - My last performance was pretty good. I made fewer mistakes but I
could be better.
Performance at Plaza MS
Entry 1
The theater was awesome. I felt so small on stage.
Entry 2
We had to wait such a long time to get on to stage but when I did I felt
confident and enjoyed performing my dance.
You can have as many entries to each part as you want.
My Golden Moments and A’Ha’s
This part of your book is for all those things that stood out to you during
the year that you really want to remember - like; something special that was
said to you by a teacher or a friend, something that you were asked to do
that surprised you or something that you really liked that you read
in “Dance Matters.” These memories didn’t have to have occurred in a
dance class; maybe it happened in the cafeteria, dressing room or hallway.
Have fun remembering!!
I Am A Dancer
Create a cover for your book that reflects the dancer you are now and the
things that are important to you. Use the cut-out dancer to help you
design this cover.
Be colorful, creative and enjoy. This is a special book.
Please put your name on it.
My Dancing Friends
Create a page that your friends can write on and send you wonderful dancing
greetings. You will pass your book around at the end of the day and have
your friends write on this page. You will also have a team picture to paste
onto this page.

ODC Dance Homework
January 9-15
Once again, we’d like you to watch the world around you and make some
observations. This time, we’re interested in how gravity is demonstrated.
Look for things that are heavy, light, balanced or unbalanced (falling!).
Make a chart to record what you see to share with the class next week.
HEAVY LIGHT BALANCED UNBALANCED
Reflection: How does gravity affect your dancing? What is the relationship
between gravity and a dancer?
ODC Dance Homework
January 2-8 2008!!!
Look for things in your daily life that show the concept of force that we
explored in today’s lesson. When do you see someone or something pushing or
pulling another thing? Record what you see to share with the class next week.
Create a chart with one column labeled PUSH and another labeled PULL. Find
about 10 things that you notice doing those actions. For example, you might
notice that you push the door to open it. Or you see someone pulling on
their coat to put it on.
Then answer the reflection questions that follow.
Reflection: How does force (pushing and pulling) create balance, falling,
movement or stillness? What is the relationship of the forces between
objects or people?
December 10-14, 1852
ALL
You are invited to perform in the Paris Opera Ballet's production
of "Giselle" next week. You will dance the role of a peasant or a willi.
(Choose one.)Please bring a small item that you can wear that will help
represent your character.
You are also invited to the party after the performance. You may bring a
refreshment or food, but remember that we will be in the 1800's in Paris,
France. What might people eat at that time? What might they call the food or
drink? Use your imagination and your resources to come up with something
appropriate and fun! See you there!
Sincerely,
The Faculty of the Paris Opera Ballet School
