When can I check my average?

You can check your average before or after school. I will not
talk about grades in class.

What if I think that you made a mistake grading my paper or in the gradebook?

It is possible that I made a mistake. Please come see me as soon
as possible. If you think that I recorded your grade incorrectly
you must bring the document in question.

I think you lost my paper.

Maybe it is the one that I threw in the garbage because it didn't
have a
name on it. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. I
purposely do
not remove any papers from my desk. If you handed it in it is
somewhere on
my desk.

Will I go to summer school if I fail this class?

Yes, and maybe you will be lucky enough to have me for a teacher.

I have a great story about why my homework isn't done, will you listen?

No, I am sure your story is great (happy/sad/unique) but I still
won't take
late work.

Why is this class so hard? Isn't religion supposed to be easy?

I am sorry that you have been led to believe that religion
classes are
supposed to be easy. This is an academic class and should be as
challenging
as your other classes. Morality and Apologetics require a kind of
thinking
that many of you are not used to. You cannot simply memorize
answers and
spit them back out. It is my job to make sure that you
understand the
information so that you can apply it throughout your life. For
this reason
many of the assignments will ask you to apply the information
that you have
learned. We will be discussing philosophical topics such as the
nature of
truth. If you were deemed to be incapable of passing my class,
you wouldn't
be in it.

No matter what I do I can't seem to pass a test.

Come and talk to me and I will help you study.

Can I please have extra-credit so I can stay eligible?

Extra credit implies that the original or basic
requirement has
already been met and this new effort is not a substitute but an
additional
effort beyond the norm. Some students have the mistaken idea
that extra
credit assignments ought to override previous failure to submit
or study for
required assignments. This interpretation enables the
continuance of
irresponsibility and poor study habits. You will only be
eligible for extra
credit if you have no missing assignments and no unexcused
absences FOR THE
ENTIRE SEMESTER.
