What is Transition Class?
Transition Class bridges the gap between student life and adult life. The curriculum taught encompasses a variety of topics. Reinforcing what is taught in Math, Reading and English.
Transition Class enables the student to explore other subject areas relevant to everyday life.
These subjects include but are not limited to Self-Determination, Work Place Skills, Safety, Life Skills, Current Events, Social Studies, Health Advocacy, Leisure and Recreation.
By expanding, the student knowledge base in a variety of subject areas the student will be expected to know as they mature and re-enforcing already learned skills. Thus, student confidence is built and strengthened.
Off Campus Work Experience.
This period is a work experience off campus for senior students. The Options Program has a partnership with local businesses to enhance the Options Student opportunity to work in a community based business close to Paul VI. The transitions teacher is able to work with students on specific job and life skills outside the classroom in a community setting.
On Campus Work Experience.
This period provided within the Options curriculum is an opportunity for the student to understand the components necessary in work/job success with the assistance of a peer mentor.
This is a work situation for both the Options Student and peer mentor. Students start to develop works skills outside the classroom setting. It is a time when expectations are placed on the Options student outside the classroom to develop a higher level of resposibility. It is a chance for the student to experience working with others. Inclusion of the Options student in a PVI work setting provides the student with daily practice in a valuable life skill and builds the students confidence. .
