AP U.S. History

 

Welcome to Advance Placement U.S. History!

   AP US History is a comprehensive course equivalent to a college survey course in American history. 

   Course Objectives:

   On completion of this course, the student will

                1.  grasp an understanding of the institutional, cultural and social factors that have
                    shaped the people and society of the U.S. from the 16th century to the present.

                 2.  have the ability to utilize and manifest awareness of geography, economics and 
                      social concerns of the U.S. from the 16th century to the present.

                  3.  analyze the roles of the various important forces, individuals, ideas and groups  
                       who constitute minorities in American society and culture.

                  4.  synthesize historical evemts and trends in  the history of the United States
                       using primary and secondary sources of information.

                   5.  Evaluate conflicting sources and interpretations of historical information as to
                        tests of bias, reliability and validity.

                   6.  develop a sophisticated understanding of the key issues and problems that
                        confront a society in both time and history such as ideas and diplomacy.

                    7.  write with clarity, in a concise and coherent manner on the document based
                         questions, as well as free response questions, and back their thesis with
                         historical fact.

                     8.  be prepared and pass the Advanced Placement Examination.
