For Week of Nov. 3, 2008
For homework this week, I ask that you make some kind of purchase yourself
using cash. For Wednesday, please write down for me where you went to make
your purchase, what you purchased, the purchase price of the item, the tax
on the item if there was tax, the total amount of your purchase, how much
you gave to pay for your purchase and how much change you received back. I
would also like to know what number and denominations of bills and amounts
and kinds of coins you received back for your change.

Monday- 10-27-08 Greg bought a Halloween costume at Party City for $26.99.
Tax is 5%. How much tax would he pay? What would the total cost of the
costume with tax be? Using Next Dollar Up, how much should he hand to the
cashier? How much change would Greg get back?
Tuesday- 10-28-08 Sarah stayed after for Volley Ball practice from 3:30 to
4:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. How many hours in all did
she stay after?
Wednesday- 10-29-08 Rachel bought a bag of candy containing 28 pieces of
candy and another bag of candy containing 32 pieces. She gave one piece of
candy out to each child that came to her door. She had 43 children come
trick or treating. How many pieces of candy did she have left over?
Thursday- 10-30-08 Carter worked on his homework on Monday evening from 5pm
to 6pm. On Tuesday and Wednesday, he worked on his homework from 5:30 to 6pm
each night. How many hours did Carter spend on his homework this week?

will give a brief presentation of what you found out to the class. The
students will get their flash drives to put their project on. Please have
them print out one hard copy to hand in to me on Friday.
