The Exceptional Child

The Exceptional Child Fall 2011

Purpose- The Exceptional Child is a general introduction class for the
student to start to learn about the characteristics of exceptional learners
and their education. It is my hope that this class will reach the student's
heart as well as the mind. Professionals working with exceptional learners
must develop not only a solid base of knowledge but also a caring and healthy
attitude towards the people whom they serve.

First Quarter, Fall 2011

1. Read Chapter 1 of Exceptional Learners, Exceptionality and Special
Education. Answer the 4 questions at the
end of the Chapter. You may email your answers to me by Tuesday, September 6,

2. Read Book. Write a 2-3 page long review, double- spaced, 12 point Arial
font. How did reading this book affect your opinion of people with severe
intellectual disabilities? What did you think of each parent's response to
their daughter? Would or how would you have wanted the parents to respond
differently? Due October 26, 2011.

3. Begin to work on your semester project. You are to make a 5-6 minute
long photostory of Options at PVI. This photostory is to show how modified

in Options and around the school. You may also want to consider selecting
your music that you will use. Options has the camera for you to use.

intellectual disabilities. This should be about 2-3 pages, double spaced 12
