Our big performance at the ARMY 10-miler is Oct. 5!! Here's an article that was run last year
on our Pep Band.
Paul VI Catholic High Pep Band plays at this year’s Army 10-miler
On a dark October morning when most people were sleeping in, over 50 PVI musicians and their
parents from Fairfax, VA toughed out a 5:15 am bus departure to support the 2007 ARMY 10-miler
foot race through Washington, DC. The students played warm-up exercises in the dark, and as the
sun rose, began performing at the 6-mile mark for the flow of 26,000 runners approaching the
Capitol Building.
When the PVI band kicked into the “Hey Song” runners as far as 5 blocks away perked up, raised
their arms, and shouted ”Hey!” The theme from “Rocky” fired up the runners who strode past the
band, “high-fiving” other runners and band members and throwing warm-up punches to imaginary
opponents. They were “psyched”.
The band played non-stop for nearly 2 hours in record heat, and when endurance started to fade,
were inspired to continue by the runners themselves. Senior flutist Jenn Hollm stated “We felt
really good when we saw all the runners smiles and were surprised when they themselves cheered
us on. We had a great time and all got closer throughout the experience”.
