Jan Siegfried hails from Valparaiso, Indiana, a 1978 graduate of Valparaiso
HS. She earned a B.S. in Music Area Education K-12 in 1982 from Ball State
University. That year she went on to audition for the United States Air
Force Band in Washington, DC, and won the nationally-advertised position.
She served as Solo E-flat Clarinetist in the Concert Band, and retired after
20 years. For over two decades she has been active in the Fairfax, Prince
William, and Prince Georges Counties as clinician and adjudicator, and has
distinguished herself with being awarded the Virginia Governor’s Award and
the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction. In 2008, she was added to the
pretigious ranks of Who's Who for American Women. As a private instructor,
she has mentored many students, some
of whom have gone on to join the professional ranks as well.
She also directs the St. Stephen’s Community Orchestra, performs with the
Virginia Grand Military Band, and served as past Music Director for the non-
profit organization, the Reunion Music Society. Mrs. Siegfried is an active
member of Music Educators National Conference, National Catholic Band
Association, Virginia Music Educator's Association, and National Band
Association. She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in conducting at
George Mason University where she is a student of Professor Mark Camphouse.
Mrs. Siegfried’s husband, Bill, freelances, adjudicates, and teaches
trumpet. They have two children, Billy and Bobby.
