And earning your letter serves you well in the collegiate application process. It communicates to the board your willingness to go "above and beyond". The attributes of commitment, selfless service, excellence, openness to diverse and new experiences, goals for artistic growth.... These are some of the qualities that colleges are seeking in their applicants. And you are communicating that you are the person they seek! To earn your letter each year there is a minimum # of points that must be accrued. The projected # for 2012 is 29. Here's a partial list of potential venues: Private lessons Liturgical Masses - 1st day of school,10 throughout the school year Pep Band - Football games, PVI Runfest, Options under the lights soccer tourney, ARMY 10-miler, It's Academic NBC Studios videotaping Jazz Band fall semester/Spring Semester Car wash(es) Summer Music Camp(s) Help with PVI mini-camps for Diocesan musicians Student Conducting at games and concerts Extra-curricular ensemble rehearsals and performances Music library work Volunteer to perform on secondary instrument - 1 per concert Spring Trip Note: The average earning power of these activities is 1 pt. for every 2 1/2 hours of commitment. Examples: private lessons = 5 pts., car wash = 1-2 pts. And returning musicians have a carry-over of 5 pts. to start off the year! These awards will be handed out at the annual awards picnic in May. First- year recipients will earn an official PVI letter... the same ones that are awarded in sports. Students earning their letter for their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year will be awarded a bar each year to attach to the original letter.
