This is my fifth year at PVI. I hold a Bachlors Degree in Social Work
from the College of New Rochelle (a women's Catholic College) and a Masters
Degree in Counseling from Va. Tech. My previous experience includes five
years with Fairfax County Schools as a Counselor and Test Coordinator; 30
years working with teens and their families as a Youth Minister and
Catechist for both the Military and Arlington Diocese, and for the
International Catholic Community while living over seas. I remain active in
the CCD program at Nativity Church in Burke.
I am the mother of three adult children. My oldest daughter is a
graduate of Catholic University and resides in the DC area. My middle
daughter is a graduate of West Virginia University, holds a Masters Degree in
English Literature from George Mason University and is a middle school
teacher at Queen of the Apostles Elementary School in Alexandria. My son, who
is also my youngest, is an EMT and in the Army Reserves. He plans to
continue his education toward becoming a full time fire-fighter and
Paramedic through the military.
I was born and raised in New York City. I met and married my husband
after his graduation from the Military Academy at West Point, NY. His Army
Career had us traveling and living all over the world to include assignments
on both coasts and in Asia. As a result of these "adventures" I have been
privileged to live among and learn about families of many different cultures.
As empty nesters, my husband and I love to travel and visit wineries,
which we do as often as time and money allow. In my spare time I enjoy
gardening, reading, playing with our Shelties, JJ and Joshua, and going to
the movies.
I feel privileged to be a member of the faculty here at Paul VI. PVI is
more than a school, it is a community of loving, christian people. I look
forward to many more years of service here. Thank you for the opportunity to
work with your children.
A School Counselor provides psycho-educational support to the students of
PVI. This is done in several ways:
> Provide college/career planning.
> Helping to identify and communicate special educational support to
teachers.
> Coordinate meetings with teachers and parents and students as needed.
> Offer special support groups for students with special needs.
> Help students get over any hurdles that may be in their way of academic
success.
> Be an advocate for the student as needed.
Paramount is, CONFIDENTIALITY! Anything that is said in my office, stays
in my office. Unless a person should suggest harm to themselves or others,
nothing is shared without that person's consent.
I work hand-in-hand with Advisors, Faculty and Staff to provide these
services. Each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis, treating each
student, parent, and faculty member as an individual.
