TRZ Trinkets is now open!!
Our classroom economy has begun and the students have had their first paychecks issued, they
cashed them at the "First Bank of PMES", shopped at "TRZ's Trinkets" and redeposited their
savings back in the bank. Their first experience went very smoothly and I believe everyone was
happy with their purchases. If this is the first you've heard about it, let me fill you in.
Every two weeks the students are paid for their classroom jobs, such as pencil sharpener, board
eraser, materials manager, etc. They have credit/debit "bankbooks" which they keep on their
desks and are awarded credits for good behavior, completing all their homework, doing random
acts of kindness, etc. They get debits for poor behavior, incomplete homework, etc. At the end
of the pay period, their bank books are balanced and their paychecks issued. Our classroom
economy teaches life skills along with basic economic principles--needs vs. wants, saving vs.
spending, credit vs. debit. The store is stocked with all kinds of goodies from candy to
homework passes. So as not to break MY bank, I would love any donations you can make. Any little
toys in good condition would be welcome or anything you thing would be of value to a 3rd grader.
Hot items this week included recorders ($.50 at Wal-Mart), chinese fans and Pokemon cards.
Special thanks to the Willenbrinks for donating a real cash register. If anyone has access to a
nameplate (the kind they use in banks), or an open/closed sign that would be really cool!
I'll try and get some pictures up here the next time we're open for business!
