5/25/12
Gettysburg was SO much fun! We saw so many interesting and important
sites. We saw statues that represented different important figures, we went
inside different memorials, our guide let us role play, as well as, reenact
many different parts of the war on both the confederate and unions sides.
This week we focused on the topic of equivalent fractions. This plays into
our discussion/practice of memorizing our multiplication tables. We talked
about “multiples” and how equivalent fraction’s denominators are multiples of
the smallest number. Such as, what is 1/3 of 15 cubes?
We finished our chapter on changes on Earth and took our assessment.
Next week we will begin our chapter on matter and its properties.
Our social studies unit is wrapping up! I failed to remember that we were
going to Gettysburg Tuesday so we were unable to share our posters until
Thursday. Thus, our assessment will be Tuesday, May 29th.
This week in math we began chapter 12 which discusses rates.
Students will be collecting and comparing rate data. These rates will help in
real world situations, such as, shopping by comparing prices. They will also
be converting between rates.
In science this week we began chapter 15 pertaining to objects in
motion. Students will discuss what motion is, how force affects moving
objects, and comparing motion to force and mass.
For social studies this week only had one day available to discuss
what followed Gettysburg due to the field trip. We did begin discussing other
battles that were fought during the Civil War.
