Dear Parents,
While the end of the school year is fast approaching, we still have to keep a schoolwork mind set at least until testing is over.  I have some fun activities planned to help students review for their tests. Starting on May 14th parents will not be allowed in the school building until after testing, which will be approximately 11:00 A.M.
Please note that we will be reimbursing your field trip money in the next couple of weeks.
Field Day is this Friday, May 10.  Students who usually purchase lunch need to specially order lunch from the Cafeteria for that day.
In reading we continue to work through our basal readers, enjoying some of my favorite stories and activities.  The read-aloud this week is The World According to Humphrey.  Please ask your child to tell you about it.   Our current focus in Language Arts homographs.  I continue to review compound words, synonyms, antonyms, nouns, adjectives, verbs and and contractions.  Students completed  May book reports that are on display in the hall.
We will finish our Geometry unit this week with the test planned for Thursday, May 9th.
Our last Social Studies Unit is on Economics. Students will learn about wants, needs, goods, services, making an economic choice, capital resources, human resources and natural resources.  Students will participate in a Barter Day activity where they will have a chance to exchange what they have brought in with students in the class.  A letter describing the activity will be sent home Monday, May 13th.
Hopefully our butterflies will be ready to be released sometime this week. The students have been carefully watching the stages of the butterfly right in our classroom.
Please look at the class calendar to see testing dates and learn about upcoming activities for our class.
A Happy Mother's Day to all of our special mothers and thank you for your continuing support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me here at school (804)360-0812 or by e-mail, kepotter@henrico.k12.va.us.
