4th - 8th Students and Parents

Fourth to eighth grade students will begin training for our May mile run next week! Students will record their steps and laps for a timed 15 minutes each class period, and we will track their progress. Hopefully they will each increase steps and laps, and be able to chart their growth.

As detailed in the supply lists at the beginning of the school year and teacher websites during the past month, please send your child with a pedometer starting next week, Monday April 3rd. Any pedometer is fine: there are many options for pedometer on Amazon for less than $10, which will work well for this unit. Please ensure your child has his or her name and class written on it, has read the instructions and practiced using it, and is comfortable using it independently. Each student should wear their pedometer each PE day until May 24th. Their participation grade will be affected if sneakers or pedometer are forgotten more than once during the unit, beginning Monday, April 10th. We look forward to improving cardiovascular health with this fun unit! After the 15 minutes, students will enjoy a variety of cooperative games and sports.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Ms. Cat

We will work toward four types of fitness, which are each important to incorporate into a healthy physical activity routine:

  • Cardiovascular/aerobic exercise.

  • Anaerobic exercise.

  • Joint flexibility.

  • Muscular endurance and strength.

Students will build teamwork skills through cooperative games and sports. Sports this year will include hockey, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, flag football, kickball, badminton, dance, and soccer. Students will also practice drills and activities to fine-tune skills for each sport.

Please contact me at with any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Thank you and God Bless you,

Ms. Cat
