Please take home Vocabulary Workbooks during Christmas break to study vocabulary units 4-6. The Vocabulary Review of Units 4-6 Test will be on Tuesday, January 5.
The following is an assignment which was due in class on Thursday, December 10:
Summary of (8th)Hoot Chapters 13-18; (7th) Narnia Chapters 12-15; (6th) Tuck Chapters 17-24. Write 3 questions concerning each chapter. Use 5 Vocabulary Unit 6 words.
The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students have entered a Letters About Literature contest sponsored by the Library of Congress and Target. Each student should have given to me a rough draft of a letter written to his/her favorite author concerning a book/series of books the author has written which has somehow affected and or inspired the life of the student. Details are also posted on my website under Letters About Literature. The deadline for the first typed copy of the letter for 7th and 8th grades was Wednesday, December 2; for 6th grade the deadline it was Friday, December 4. The deadline for the final TWO typed copies of the letter for 7th and 8th grades was Monday, December 7; for 6th grade, it was Tuesday, December 8. This will be a graded project/test for the students. Students were to print the the entry form--it was due in class on Wednesday, December 2. The entry form can be found on the website.
The next vocabulary quiz was on Vocabulary Unit 6 on Wednessday, December 9. Vocabulary extra credit is due on the day of the quiz, prior to taking the quiz. Make up quizzes/tests can be taken during lunch or after school with a permission note from parents.
Tuesday, December 15-8th grade will be attending a field trip at George Mason University Centre for the Arts to support a literature unit on short stories. The bus will depart from St. Timothy at 9am and return at approximately 2:00pm. Permission slips have been sent home. Permission forms and checks made payable to St. Timothy were due on Monday, October 19.
Middle School Students will have a test on their assignned novels on Wednesday, December 16.
Please ensure your child is keeping up with the assigned reading. Students should carry their assigned novel in their backpack at all times to allow for free reading opportunities. I will allow students time in class to read as well.

To 8th Grade Students and Parents:
December will be extremely busy for the 8th grade students as we will be completing the following:
1. studying 5 short stories to prepare for the field trip (please ask your child for their form) to see the play at George Mason University on December 15,
2. writing letters to enter the Letters About Literature contest,
4. completing a vocabulary unit every other week,
5. working in the literature textbook and
6. reading Hoot.
