As you can imagine, having 20-25 children in a
small room five days a week 7 hours a day can be very challenging to say the
least! To help keep order in the class we have implemented and practiced
problem solving skills. This life skill is used to assist the children from
needing a mediator for every conflict that might arise. It is also designed to
keep children that are not having a problem from becoming involved in problems
that are not their own - THUS, lowering the number of
children with problems at any given moment during the day! After a few weeks
of doing this I often have parents share with me that the children are using
the skill at home too!
Problem Solving
1) What's the problem?
2) Who owns it?
(If it is not your problem, then stay out of it!)
Problem Solving Steps
1) Ignore
2) Move away
3) Ask politely to stop
4) Ask firmly to stop
5) Give final warning
6) Get help
