About Your GRTs


Terri Darnell

This is my fifth year working as a gifted cluster teacher at Thoroughgood Elementary.

Prior to working at Thoroughgood, I served as gifted resource teacher at Linkhorn Park Math/Science Academy as well as Seatack Elementary. This my 18th year working in the Virginia Beach City Public School system. I have also worked as a third grade cluster teacher, Education Consultant for Old Dominion University, and Founder/Director of the ODU-TWPC Summer Writing Camp. I also have experience with our school system's gifted program as a parent. I am mother to Kalli, a senior at Cox High School and Ben, an eighth grader at Great Neck Middle School.


I hold a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Virginia Tech, a masters degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University, and a gifted education endorsement from the University of Virginia.

It is a joy working with our vast talent pool of young students at Thoroughgood. I look forward to a wonderful year with with your child and classroom teacher!

Angie Norell

This is my first year as a Gifted Resource Teacher.  I am delighted to be working with Kindergarten and 1st grade students at Thoroughgood Elementary.  In addition, I also work with students at John B. Dey Elementary and Birdneck Elementary.


Prior to working as a Gifted Resource Teacher, I taught 4th and 5th grade for a number of years in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. 


I hold a Master’s Degree in Education, with a concentration in Gifted Education, from Johns Hopkins University.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts/Education from College of Notre Dame of Maryland. 


I have lived in Virginia Beach for one year.   I have two daughters; one just starting her school career in Kindergarten at Thoroughgood and the other is 16 months. 


I am so excited to be working with the outstanding students at Thoroughgood this year!
