Here are our 2nd grade Snazzy Snacks from 2006-2007!

SNAZZY SNACKS...
Handwriting practice combined with delicious recipes and FUN!

Students practice their handwriting skills by carefully writing a recipe for the Snazzy Snack on their recipe page. Students follow the recipe directions to make a tasty treat (providing a review of neat penmanship, measurement, and science at the same time)! After enjoying the finished product, the children draw a picture of their snack. The recipe is filed in the child's cookbook to create a handy reference of all the delicious recipes. Our class then votes on the recipe to determine how many stars it receives:
(1 star= 0-5 votes, 2 stars= 6-10 votes, 3 stars=11-15 votes, 4 stars= 16-20 votes, 5 stars= 21-25 votes)

Perfect for our 50th Day of School...
 Ice Cream Floats

   

 Ingredients:
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1 can Coke or Root Beer

Directions:
1. Put ice cream in a cup.
2. Pour soda on top.
3. Add a straw and enjoy!

To celebrate our World Record Attempt...
Charlotte's Web

   

 Ingredients:
1 string cheese
1 cracker
4 pretzel sticks
squirt cheese

Directions:
1. Peel string cheese and lay on black paper like a spider web.
2. Break pretzels in half.
3. Squirt cheese on cracker.
4. Press pretzels in cheese for spider legs.
5. TERRIFIC!

Where did you get the idea for Snazzy Snacks?
I learned about this idea from many wonderful teachers at the Second Grade Teachers' Club. The original idea for "Tasty Tuesdays" came from Mrs. Schwartz and the name "Snazzy Snacks" came from Mrs. Bainbridge. These 2 teachers also shared many recipes!

Where did you find your Snazzy Snack recipes?
The recipes have been collected from many sources including: my own family recipes, teachers at the Second Grade Teachers' Club, and kid recipe searches on the internet.

How will students make their cookbook?
After recipes are written and illustrated on the recipe card, they are filed in the child's cookbook. This is simply a folder with brads, so each hole punched page can easily be added to the back of the folder.
