Welcome back to a wonderful school year! I know all of our cardinal readers
have been busy having lots of fun summer adventures, and hopefully enjoying
great reading. Please don't forget to turn in your summer reading logs the
first week of school! Friday, September 11th is the last day we will accept
reading logs for participation credit. Of course we will reward our summer
readers with an ice cream celebration at the end of the month.
I am so pleased to announce the arrival of many new books to our building,
which thankfully VBCPS has provided for all elementary schools. Trantwood has
hundreds of new titles in levels A through Z for guided reading groups and
for classroom libraries as well. There are books galore in fiction,
nonfiction, and in content area studies for all grades. Great new books?
We've got you covered!!!!
Our theme at school this year is "Write On Trantwood." Teachers and students
will be encouraged to use the writing process to create many different
writing pieces, including persuasive, informative, expository, and creative
work for entertainment. Students and staff will use our curriculum writing
rubrics and pre-writing webs that spiral up from kindergarten through fifth
grade. Our goal is to unify our writing instruction to promote more cohesion
from one grade to the next, thus allowing students and teachers a smooth
transition with benchmark expectations year to year.
I look forward to a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Janet Roewer
