Reading Connection News

Reading Strategies are like tools in a carpenter's toolbox. In both whole- classroom and in
small- group instruction this year, we will review and learn the following strategies:
* Connect new ideas in your reading to what you already know.
* Think about the questions you have in your mind as you read.
* Combine what you read and what you already know.
* Bring pieces of information together to form a new idea.
* Check your understanding. When you don't understand try rereading, try thinking about the
meaning, and try thinking about the book genre.
* Create mental images using your senses and feelings.
