VBRC Board Mission

 
The mission of the Virginia Beach Reading Council is to promote literacy, to provide a forum for educators and community members,
to develop and share ideas, and to encourage the love and joy of reading.

VBRC will be
celebrating its 41st year in 2010!
 
 
What does VBRC do?
  • Hosts general membership meetings, an annual fall conference, and annual spring banquet
  • Provides members with a newsletter 3 times a year
  • Recognizes a city Reading Teacher of the Year and all building nominees
  • Honors an Administrator of the Year
  • Recognizes exemplary community literacy efforts
  • Provides Teachers as Readers grants
  • Supports the Virginia Readers Choice program
  • Gives an annual to a deserving member
  • Sponsors the Teenage Expectant Mothers project
  • Supports local, state, national, and literacy efforts
  • Funds Catch 'Em in the Cradle, our local service project
