What We're Learning

Language Arts
Kindergarteners are working daily on letter recognition, sound 
recognition and handwriting.  Upcoming topics will include the following: 
dinosaurs (2 weeks) and summer. Daily writing practice using white boards 
are used for reinforcement of Kindergarten sight words, along with 
writing simple sentences using high frequeny sight words (I can see the 
boy/We can see and look, etc).  Some of our words include: I, 
see, we, a, you, to, the we, be, me, like, look, and go.

Writing
We are participating in the EPIC writing program.  This unit will focus on 
teaching students to write like famous authors (Authors as Mentors).

Math
Kindergarteners have just begun their last unit on Data Analysis.  Surveys, 
counting activities, sorting by attributes, Attribute Dominoes, and other 
activities are practiced throughout the unit.

Social Studies
US symbols such as the Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle, The White House, 
Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross and the American Flag will all be discussed.  
Patriotic songs will be taught and performed at our Stars & Stripes 
performance on Thursday, June 4th at 6:00.
