What are the "SOLs"?
SOL is an acronym for "Standards of Learning". These are state-wide
assessments. In third grade these assessments are Reading, Math, Science,
and History. These assessments DO NOT determine advancement to the fourth
grade. They are typically given the end of May. The third grade tests are
based up information taught from kindergarten through third.
--------------------------------------
When will you give homework?
Homework is given Monday through Thursday. Projects may run over weekends.
--------------------------------------
What are school hours?
Class begins at 8:30 a.m. and students are dismissed at 3:00 p.m.
--------------------------------------
How long should it take my child to finish their homework?
Generally, homework should not take more than 45 minutes to complete.
Occasionally however, it may take longer. For example, the day or two
before
a test, reviews make take longer to complete. Please understand this is to
help your child achieve success on the test.
--------------------------------------
Why does my child have a low grade?
Your child may have a "zero" (----) for one of two reasons: first, she was
absent on the day the assignment was given or collected. Secondly, she may
have forgotten to put her name on the assignment. I enter grades into my
data base on the weekends. If I do not have an assignment or do not know to
whom it belongs, your child will receive a TEMPORARY zero. The grade will
be
modified when the assignment is completed. If your child did not do the
assignment and does not turn it in, the grade will remain a zero. If your
child received a "0" as a grade, it will be recorded as "5".

How can I stay informed of my child's grades?
Grades and graded papers are sent home every Tuesday. If you have any
questions, please write a note or call. Please sign and return the grade
sheets. All graded papers must be returned also.
