How can I prepare my child for first grade?
The best way to prepare your child for first grade is to find books on your
child's reading level and make them available to him/her, along with reading
books to your child for fun. Your child should be able to write his/her
entire name with correct letter formation and correctly record beginning and
ending sounds in consonant-vowel-consonant words like hat, pig,
got, etc. Simple addition problems, counting to 100 by 1s, 5s and 10s,
knowing coins and their value, and identifying simple shapes are some of the
math concepts that should be mastered before first grade (check your child's
final Kindergarten report card to see how well s/he did and what areas need
improvement before September).
You can also prepare your child for the responsiblity of first grade tasks
by expecting him/her to follow directions the first time and clean up after
him/herself. And don't forget to practice tying your shoes!

What do I do if my child forgets to bring his/her weekly homework packet home?
If your child forgets to bring his/her homework home on Monday night, please
email me or write me a note explaining that your child will need a gentle
reminder to place homework in his/her bookbag the following day. Students
who forget their homework packet are still responsible for completing all
homework assigned for the week.
