About The Teacher

This is my second year at Woodstock Elementary. I am in my 8th year of
teaching, the last 7 in first grade; my first year of teaching was in
kindergarten. Before teaching, I was a full-time mom (and VBCPS PTA/school
volunteer!) with my own children. I received my bachelors degree from
Hollins College (now Hollins University), and received my M.S.Ed. in Early
Childhood Education in 2000 from Old Dominion University. In December 2006,
I successfully completed the certification process to become a National
Board Certified Teacher. I am one of approximately 55 National Board
certified teachers in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. I was born in
Winston-Salem, NC and grew up there in a family of 7 children; however I
have lived in Virginia Beach for 20 years and can't imagine calling any
other place home. I love the people, the beaches, and everything about this
area(except the traffic!) My husband David and I have a blended family of 4
children. They are Andrew, 22, who is in law school at the College of
William and Mary; Maggie, 22, a recent graduate of the University of Mary
Washington; Paxton, 19, a junior at The College of William and Mary; and
Joseph, 17, a student at Cox High School and the Vocational/Technical Center
(specializing in automotive mechanics). I like to spend time at our Nags
Head beach cottage, reading, and spending time with my family. I feel that
my experience as a parent of students in the Va. Beach schools has really
helped me understand the needs and concerns of both my students and their
parents. I love being at Woodstock; the students are awesome and the parent
involvement is terrific. I'm looking forward to a great year with my
Energetic Raccoons and their parents!

Mission For The Class

Our mission for the class is to build a supportive and safe classroom
community in which all students are accepted and encouraged to become eager
learners.
