This is my first year at Woodstock Elementary. I am in my 7th year of
teaching, the last 6 in first grade; my first year was in kindergarten.
Before teaching, I was a full-time mom (and PTA/school volunteer!) with my
own children. I received my bachelors degree from Hollins College (now
Hollins University), and received my M.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education in
2000 from Old Dominion University. In December 2006, I successfully
completed the certification process to become a National Board Certified
Teacher. I was born in Winston-Salem, NC and grew up there in a family of 7
children; however I have lived in Virginia Beach for 19 years and can't
imagine calling any other place home. I love the people, the beaches, and
everything about this area(except the traffic!) My husband David and I have
a blended family of 4 children. They are Andrew, 21, who is in law school at
the College of William and Mary; Maggie, 21, a senior at the University of
Mary Washington; Paxton, 19, a student at Tidewater Community College; and
Joseph, 17, a student at Cox High School. I love to read, spend time at our
beach cottage, and be with my family. I feel that my experience as a parent
of students in the Va. Beach schools has really helped me understand the
needs of both my students and their parents. I'm so excited to be at
Woodstock, and am looking forward to an awesome year!
Our mission for the class is to build a supportive and safe classroom
community in which all students are accepted and encouraged to become eager
learners.
