MISSION of the PVI SPECIAL PROGRAMS:
ACADEMIC SUPPORT PROGRAM and DeSALES LEARNING CENTER
Special Programs teachers are dedicated to providing PVI students with the
tools by which they can better accomplish their educational goals. Special
Programs students develop as active and independent learners through lessons
in organization, time management, and study strategies. Special Programs
teachers encourage students to discover their learning strengths, to build
self-confidence, and to become self-advocates. During Special Programs
classes, teachers assist students with essays, projects, homework, and quiz
or test preparations assigned in student mainstream classes. For students
with documented learning disabilities, Special Programs teachers identify
appropriate classroom accommodations. Special Programs teachers work with
parents, counselors, and classroom teachers to help students experience
academic success with a challenging high school curriculum.

Eligibility for Accommodations and Extended Time on Exams
Dear Parents,
If you gather new psycho-educational documentation for your ASP or DSLC student during the
year, please inform the Special Programs Department and the Guidance Department.
All students with documented learning disabilities must have documentation on file in the PVI
Guidance Department to receive support services and accommodations, such as extended time on
tests and semester exams.
Any student who has documentation on file and who is receiving accommodations should complete
the SAT eligibility form by the end of freshman year. Sophomores and Juniors who have not
contacted the Guidance Department to establish eligibility for accommodations should complete
the SSD Eligibility Form now. Please plan ahead! It takes several weeks to process this form.
Eligibility will remain in effect until a student graduates.
The ACT also offers testing accommodations. A student is required to fill out one eligibility
form and one registration form for each ACT testing date.
All eligibility and registration materials are available in the Guidance Office.
For more information, contact PVI Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Ratliff, at ext. # 316.
Thank you.
