How do parents register students for the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE)?

Parents must complete a registration form and submit a registration fee for
this student assistance program. A registration form for entering freshmen
must be completed on the registration day for PVI scheduled in March.
Current PVI students enroll in the fall semester ACE session in May and the
spring semester ACE session in December.

How do parents register students for the DeSales Learning Center (DSLC)?

For enrollment in this program, parents must provide recent psycho-
educational testing results and educational plans for LD or ADD students.
An admissions committee will review these documents and also student
transcripts and recommendations to determine if placement in this program is
appropriate. When students are accepted in this program, parents must
complete a registration form and submit a registration fee. Entering
freshmen register for this program on the registration day for PVI scheduled
in March.

Do the ACE and DSLC students receive a grade on their report cards?

Students do not receive a grade for ACE or DSLC on their report cards. Each
student's performance is evaluated several times during the semester on ACE
and DSLC forms. These progress reports are mailed home to parents.

How do subject teachers know that a student is eligible for accommodations?

The ACE and DSLC teachers review documentation provided by parents to
determine the accommodations recommended for students. The ACE and DSLC
teachers inform a student's subject teachers about a student's learning
disabilities, the academic areas impacted, and the accommodations needed in
the classroom setting.

How can parents know the homework assignments given each week by teachers?

Many PVI teachers list their homework assignments on their PVI web pages.
Parents and students should often check teacher web pages. These pages
may be found by going to "Academics" on the PVI home page menu which will
lead to subject names and then teacher pages.

What books and materials should students bring to ACE and DeSales ?

Students should always bring their planners. They should also bring the
books and assignments for at least two subjects. Students should plan to
work first on the assignments that require the most assistance from a
resource teacher.

Do the Special Programs teachers assign homework?

The Special Programs teachers will not assign homework in addition to that
of the subject teachers. As Special Programs teachers introduce new study
strategies to students, they will expect students to use these strategies to
complete their subject teacher's assignments. Special Programs teachers will
expect students to complete at home the study activities begun daily in ACE
or DSLC e.g. vocabulary flash cards, essay rough drafts, skill practice
worksheets, test review questions, graphic organizers, text highlighting,
outlines, report research, etc.
